One thing I've grown to realize over the years is that our expectations can taint New Year’s Eve (#adulting, anyone?). We define New Year’s Eve as setting the tone for the entire year ahead, and we put tons of pressure on ourselves and others to meet our expectations for that perfect evening. Instead of feeling joyful for whatever happens (planned or not), we can paint a perfect picture and expect everyone to color in the lines.

And when we do this, we tend to set ourselves up for a not-so-fun night. With family, travel, traffic, boyfriends, girlfriends, etc. “perfection” just isn’t a realistic expectation on New Year’s Eve (or probably ever...).

I've decided to start taking a different approach and wanted to invite you, dear reader, to join. It’s simple: Forget the pressure to have the perfect night out, the new dress, the fresh 'do, the cool party, the right crew ... just thinking about this is making me tired! Ring in your New Year’s Eve with your intentions—not perfection—in mind from the comfort of your own home.

Staying in doesn't need to be a snooze fest (and, unfortunately, doesn't guarantee it'll be drama free), but this approach affords you more power over the tone you set for 2018. Think about who you want to be and how you want to feel in 2018, then work backwards to create your ideal night to slide into the New Year. Maybe it's a little downward dog and a long bath, a cuddle sesh with the pup, a dance off in the privacy of your own home, or getting tipsy with the crew—either way, feel the freedom to do what will help you ring in 2018 with your intentions front of mind.

And consider me your New Year’s Night In DJ: I've created the perfect mix for the person who wants to go into the new year dancing, partying, or just chilling.

All you have to do is press play below, and let the good vibes carry you into the New Year:
